WinXP Service Pack 2 installation hangs on ‘Checking product key’

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Yes, it’s quite odd, but hey – I’m not that much Linux-geek (yet?). ;) Basically, I was installing Windows XP Home on my old Dell Inspiron 510m laptop, which is going to be used by my wife. Obviously, Service Pack 2 was one of the first things to install there, but it used to hang every time at the Checking product key stage. As usual, Google brought a solution. (more…)

NetworkManager and static IP address

Thursday, November 16, 2006

NetworkManager is very convenient tool for everyday networking needs – particularly laptop networking needs. It has some issues, though. One of the biggest is inability to define network profiles manually with static IP configuration, which – personally – I prefer to use when I am at home. Fortunately, there is a workaround. (more…)

Desktop-effects: windows hiding under GNOME panel

On the day when D620 arrived, I almost went crazy at work to get out of there ASAP. ;) Obviously, one of the first things I did, was shrinking NTFS partition to ~12 GB, reinstall WinXP, and then install FC6. Ok, here we go. (more…)

Hello world!

Saturday, November 11, 2006

Looks like first WordPress weblog entry, huh? Indeed. :) Implementing own layout into WP engine was a bit tricky, but I guess it works now. Minimal rulez, as usual.

Main intention of evad.zone is collecting some useful tips for everyday Linux needs, which will be useful for me, in the first place. I don’t mind, however, if someone else would make a use of them as well. Hey, that’s a public blog, anyway! ;)

Some more bits of this and that are covered in About page. Enjoy.
